Glenn Howard wins bragging rights over his son, Scott Howard, who plays second for Epping
SAULT STE. MARIE, ON, November 6, 2011 – Glenn Howard of Coldwater, ON continued his dominant performance from the round-robin portion throughout the playoffs en route to the GP Car and Home World Cup of Curling title today, defeating Toronto’s John Epping in the final. The championship game in the first Capital One Grand Slam of Curling event of the season also featured the series’ first father vs. son battle in a tournament final, between Glenn Howard and his son, Scott Howard, who plays second for Epping.
When the two teams met in Draw 3, Howard came away with a 7-3 win. Although the score was closer this time, the result was the same with Howard coming away with a 6-4 victory in seven ends, given Howard his first tournament win of the season.

Martin rolls to a six-end win, leaving him one victory away from a chance at an eighteenth major title

MARIE, ON, November 5, 2011 – Four teams remain in the hunt for the GP Car and Home World Cup of Curling following a quarter-final draw that saw the top two seeds bounced by tie-break qualifiers. Moving on to the semifinals at the first leg of the Capital One Grand Slam of Curling are Edmonton, AB’s Kevin Martin, Coldwater, ON’s Glenn Howard, Toronto, ON’s John Epping and Karlstad, Sweden’s Niklas Edin.

The Grand Slam of Curling is coming to The Soo
City to host 2011 GP Car and Home World Cup of Curling
SAULT STE. MARIE, ON – iSport Media and Management together with the City of Sault Ste Marie, the Essar Centre, Tourism Sault Ste. Marie and the local event organizing committee announced today that “the Soo” will host the GP Car and Home™ World Cup of Curling, the first of four elite men’s championships in the 2011-2012 Capital One Grand Slam of Curling series.
The GP Car and Home™ World Cup of Curling is scheduled to take place November 2-6, 2011 at the Essar Centre in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. and will feature 18 of the world’s best men’s curling teams competing for the GP Car and Home™ World Cup of Curling and Capital One Cup trophies, qualifying points towards a berth into the 2013 Olympic Trials, and the more than a half-million dollars in prize money that makes up the Capital One Grand Slam of Curling series.

Winnipeg youngsters break through for major title
WINDSOR, Canada – Winnipeg skip Mike McEwen captured his first-ever Capital One Grand Slam of Curling title with a 4-2 victory over veteran Winnipeg rival Jeff Stoughton in the final of the 2010 Grey Power World Cup of Curling at the WFCU Centre.
McEwen, the oldest member of his team at 30, had already eliminated Olympic champion Kevin Martin earlier in the playoffs. A second-end steal against Stoughton, the 1996 world champion who took an undefeated 7-0 record into the final, was a sign of McEwen's mark on the championship.
"That's been huge for us, throughout the playoffs," said McEwen. "We haven't had hammer at all the last four or five games, and I think we've almost stolen points to start every game."
The second end was also good to McEwen in his Saturday quarterfinal match. The young skip had kicked off his matchup against Martin with an enormous steal of four points.
