MISSISSAUGA, ONT., September 29, 2009 – The Capital One Grand Slam of Curling announced today the section groupings and draw schedule for the Grey Power World Cup of Curling as well as the women’s Three Nations Cup. The first leg of the men’s 2009-10 Capital One Grand Slam of Curling series, the Grey Power World Cup of Curling will take place from October 21-25, 2009 at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga, Ont.
The Grey Power World Cup of Curling is an elite 14-team international tournament featuring the world’s top Olympic qualifiers and hopefuls. The tournament will be contested just four months prior to the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver.
Team Glenn Howard will enter the event as the tournament’s top seed. The opening draw of the tournament is set for Wednesday, October 21 at 7:50 p.m. ET and will feature all five Canadian teams in action as Howard, Kevin Martin, Randy Ferbey, Brad Gushue and Kevin Koe will each take on an international opponent.
The Grey Power World Cup of Curling will feature two sections of seven teams. Teams were systematically allocated into sections based on their standing in the Capital One Order of Merit rankings at the start of the 2009-10 season. (Note: Number in bracket denotes Capital One Order of Merit seeding).

Following the conclusion of round robin play, the top eight teams, regardless of their section grouping, qualify for the tournament’s quarterfinals on Saturday, October 24 at 3:00 p.m. ET. The tournament’s semi-finals are set for later that same evening at 7:00 p.m. ET while the tournament’s final will be contested on Sunday, October 25 at 1:00 p.m. ET.
The women’s Three Nations Cup will begin on Friday, October 23 at 1:00 p.m. ET and will feature a total of four Olympic qualifiers and hopefuls including reigning Olympic bronze medallist Shannon Kleibrink (Calgary, Alta.), 2009 Roar of the Rings direct qualifier Stefanie Lawton (Saskatoon, Sask.), reigning World Championship gold medallist Bingyu Wang (Harbin, China) and 2010 Olympic Winter Games qualifier Eve Muirhead (Perth, Scotland), representing Great Britain.
The top two women’s teams following round robin play will advance to the final on Sunday, October 25 at 9:00 a.m. ET.

EnCana Centre Scores 2010 Slam
Monday, September 28th, 2009The bad news is that Grande Prairie lost another event to the EnCana Centre in Dawson Creek.
The good news is that it’s only for one year.
The Capital One Grand Slam of Curling, the World Curling Tour and iSport Media and Management announced yesterday that Dawson Creek has been awarded hosting rights to the 2010 Grey Power Players’ Championship, April 13-18.
The Grey Power Players’ Championship will return to the Crystal Centre in Grande Prairie in 2011.

Thursday, September 24th, 2009DAWSON CREEK, B.C. / GRANDE PRAIRIE, ALTA., September 24, 2009 – The Capital One Grand Slam of Curling, the World Curling Tour and iSport Media and Management announced today that Dawson Creek, B.C. has been awarded the hosting rights to the 2010 Grey Power Players’ Championship and that Grande Prairie, Alta. has secured the hosting rights to the 2011 Grey Power Players’ Championship.
The season’s final Capital One Grand Slam of Curling event, the 2010 Grey Power Players’ Championship is scheduled to take place at the EnCana Events Centre in Dawson Creek from April 13-18. After hosting the event in 2009, the Grey Power Players’ Championship will return to the Crystal Centre in Grande Prairie in 2011. The 2011 Grey Power Players’ Championship will take place from April 12-17.
“We’re thrilled to be bringing the 2010 Grey Power Players’ Championship to Dawson Creek as well as returning the event to Grande Prairie in 2011,” said Wendy Kane, Executive Director of the Capital One Grand Slam of Curling. “Last year’s tournament in Grande Prairie was a great success and we’re looking forward to putting on an even bigger show in the next two years.”
The 2010 Grey Power Players’ Championship will feature a separate men’s and women’s draw consisting of the world’s top 13 ranked teams from the 2009-10 season as well as curling’s gold, silver and bronze medallists from the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
“We’re elated that Dawson Creek was selected to host a premier international sporting event such as the Grey Power Players’ Championship,” said Dawson Creek Mayor Mike Bernier. “This is another great opportunity for Dawson Creek to showcase our great city to the rest of Canada. Ticket packages for the 2010 Grey Power Players’ Championship are scheduled to go on sale on November 6, 2009.

The 2010 Grey Power Players’ Championship marks the first time Dawson Creek has hosted a Capital One Grand Slam of Curling event. In 2009, Grande Prairie, played host to the Grey Power Players’ Championship with Ferbey and Jones winning the men’s and women’s tournaments respectively. The six-day event concluded with a total attendance of 40,125.

Following the conclusion of the Grey Power Players’ Championship, the World Curling Tour will announce the winners of the annual Capital One Cup. The Capital One Cup is a points-based competition that awards each team a point value based on their performance during each Capital One Grand Slam of Curling event.
The top men’s and women’s teams on the Capital One Cup standings following the Grey Power Players’ Championship will each receive $50,000 (CDN). The second and third place men’s and women’s squads will each receive $25,000 (CDN) and $10,000 (CDN) respectively.
Held annually since 2001-02, the Capital One Grand Slam of Curling features the world’s best players in one series.
The 2009-10 men’s Capital One Grand Slam of Curling series will kick off with the Grey Power World Cup of Curling at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga, Ont. from October 21-25, 2009. The series’ second leg, The National will take place at the Sleeman Centre in Guelph, Ont. from January 6-10, 2010. Winnipeg will host the men’s third event, the BDO Classic Canadian Open, from January 20-24, 2010 at the MTS Centre.
As part of its exclusive agreement, CBC will air live playoff coverage of the first three men’s 2009-10 Capital One Grand Slam of Curling events. CBCwill also broadcast the men’s and women’s finals of the 2010 Grey Power Players’ Championship.

Team Glenn Howard to Visit Local Clubs
Thursday, September 24th, 2009TORONTO, ONT., September 24, 2009 – On Tuesday, September 29, members of Team Glenn Howard (Coldwater, Ont.) will visit a pair of Toronto area curling clubs to meet with members, sign autographs and participate in an interactive on-ice clinic.

The first leg of the men’s 2009-10 Capital One Grand Slam of Curling series, the Grey Power World Cup of Curling is scheduled to take place at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga, Ont. from October 21-25, 2009.
A total of four Olympic qualifiers and hopefuls were invited to compete in the women’s Three Nations Cup including reigning Olympic bronze medallist Shannon Kleibrink (Calgary, Alta.), 2009 Roar of the Rings direct qualifier Stefanie Lawton (Saskatoon, Sask.), reigning World Championship gold medallist Bingyu Wang (Harbin, China) and 2010 Olympic Winter Games qualifier Eve Muirhead (Perth, Scotland), representing Great Britain.

MISSISSAUGA, ONT., September 16, 2009 – The Capital One Grand Slam of Curling, the World Curling Tour and iSport Media and Management announced today that Grey Power has been awarded the title sponsorship of the inaugural Grey Power World Cup of Curling. Previously titled the Masters of Curling, the tournament will be the first men’s Capital One Grand Slam of Curling series event of the 2009-10 season.

Confirmed Canadian entries for the Grey Power World Cup of Curling include 2010 Olympic hopefuls Kevin Martin (Edmonton, Alta.), Glenn Howard (Coldwater, Ont.), Kevin Koe (Edmonton, Alta.), Randy Ferbey (Edmonton, Alta.) and Brad Gushue (St. John’s, Nfld.).
Among the international 2010 Olympic qualifiers who will compete at the Grey Power World Cup of Curling include reigning World Championship gold medallist David Murdoch (Lockerbie, Scotland), reigning World Championship bronze medallist Thomas Ulsrud (Oslo, Norway), 2007 World Championship silver medallist Andreas Kapp (Unterthingau, Germany), 2006 Olympic bronze medallist John Shuster (Chisholm, Minnesota), China’s Fengchun Wang (Harbin, China), Sweden’s Niklas Edin (Sundbyberg, Sweden), France’s Thomas Dufour (Chamonix, France) and Denmark’s Ulrik Schmidt (Copenhagen, Denmark). The final nation to compete in the Grey Power World Cup is Switzerland who will send one of its two Vancouver 2010 hopefuls to the event.

The 2009 Grey Power World Cup of Curling is the first major international curling event to be held in the Greater Toronto Area since 1986, when Toronto hosted the World Men’s Curling Championship. The Toronto Curling Association (TCA) has been a strong partner of the Grey Power World Cup of Curling with outstanding support from all of the TCA’s 23 member curling clubs.
Held annually since 2001-02, the Capital One Grand Slam of Curling features the world’s best players in one series.
Following the Grey Power World Cup of Curling, the 2009-10 men’s Capital One Grand Slam of Curling series will continue with The National, taking place at the Sleeman Centre in Guelph, Ont. from January 6-10, 2010. Winnipeg will host the men’s third event, the BDO Classic Canadian Open, from January 20-24, 2010 at the MTS Centre.
The 2009-10 Capital One Grand Slam of Curling concludes with the Grey Power Players’ Championship, an event featuring separate men’s and women’s draws. The dates and location of the 2010 Grey Power Players’ Championship will be announced in the coming weeks.
As part of its exclusive agreement, CBC will air live playoff coverage of the first three men’s 2009-10 Capital One Grand Slam of Curling events. CBCwill also broadcast the men’s and women’s finals of the 2010 Grey Power Players’ Championship.
