Defending champion Glenn Howard (Coldwater, Ont.) will enter the event as the tournament’s top seed, while 2010 Olympic Winter Games representatives Kevin Martin (Edmonton, Atla.) and Thomas Ulsrud (Oslo, Norway) are seeded second and third respectively.

The BDO Classic Canadian Open is last major international curling event prior to the 2010 Olympic Winter Games and is in support of the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba.  Featuring 18 of the world’s top foursomes, the field for the BDO Classic Canadian Open will have nine World Championship and Olympic medal winning skips including Martin, Howard, Ulsrud, Randy Ferbey (Edmonton, Alta.), Jeff Stoughton (Winnipeg, Man.), Wayne Middaugh (Etobicoke, Ont.), Jean-Michel Ménard (Quebec City, Que.), Kerry Burtnyk (Winnipeg, Man.) as well as Olympic gold medallist Brad Gushue (St. John’s, Nfld.).  The event has a total purse of $100,000 (CDN).

The opening draw of the tournament is set for Wednesday, January 20 at 7:30 p.m. CT and will feature Martin, Howard and all four Manitoba-based teams in action as Stoughton battles Mike McEwen (Winnipeg, Man.) while Burtnyk faces off against Jason Gunnlaugson (Beausejour, Man.).

The BDO Classic Canadian Open consists of three pools of six teams.  Teams were systematically allocated into sections based on their standing in the Capital One Order of Merit rankings. (Note: Number in bracket denotes Capital One Order of Merit seeding).
