One lucky curling fan will win the chance to cover the button for a million dollars, live on CBC Television on Sunday, January 24, 2010
MISSISSAUGA, ONT., October 25, 2009 – Clay Graves of Toronto, Ont. moved one step closer to winning the opportunity to throw one rock for a chance to cover the button for $1 million (CDN) after advancing to the semi-finals of the Capital One Million Dollar Button contest this afternoon at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga, Ont.
Graves, 64, won the Grey Power World Cup of Curling on-site qualifier after emerging from a pool of six randomly selected contestants when his rock landed 5’3” from the button.
“One shot, one time, no sweeper, no broom – that’s a big challenge,” said Graves following his attempt. “I’ve been watching the games here so I knew there was a lot of swing in the ice and I knew it was fairly fast.”
As the contestant with the closest attempt to the button, Graves will compete in the semi-finals of the Capital One Million Dollar Button contest alongside five additional qualifiers. The remaining semi-finalists will consist of on-site qualifiers from The National in Guelph, Ont. and the BDO Classic Canadian Open in Winnipeg, Man. as well as three online entrants.
The semi-finalist with the closest attempt to the button will win the opportunity to attempt to cover the button for $1 million (CDN), live on CBC Television during the fourth end break of the championship game of the BDO Classic Canadian Open on Sunday, January 24.
