McEwen wins the all-Manitoba match-up over reigning Brier and World champion Stoughton, completing an undefeated week in Kingston, ON   KINGSTON, ON, December 18, 2011 – It was a match-up of two familiar foes in today’s championship final at the BDO Canadian Open at the K-Rock Centre in Kingston, ON as Mike McEwen came out on top in his hard-fought battle with Jeff Stoughton. Along with the title of champion at the second Capital One Grand Slam of Curling event of the season, the teams were vying for a larger share in the $100,000 purse and valuable Canadian Team Ranking System (CTRS) points.   Both playing out of Winnipeg, MB, McEwen and Stoughton had met many times before, including the last Manitoba provincial play-downs which Stoughton won in an extra end. KINGSTON, ON, December 17, 2011 – The championship final at the BDO Canadian Open features an all-Manitoba match-up between the world #1-ranked Mike McEwen and reigning World champion Jeff Stoughton. Along with the title of champion at the second Capital One Grand Slam of Curling event of the season on the line, tomorrow’s winner will take home at least $24,000 and 40 Canadian Team Ranking System (CTRS) points.   McEwen is the defending champion at the BDO Canadian Open and has yet to lose a game so far this week. Stoughton’s last Grand Slam win came at this very event in 2006. Gatineau/Levis, QC’s Jean-Michel Menard defeats Edmonton, AB’s Kevin Koe in this morning’s tie-breaker draw to reach the quarter-finals   KINGSTON, ON, December 17, 2011 – After finishing the round-robin portion of the BDO Canadian Open with identical 3-2 records, former World champion Kevin Koe of Edmonton, AB, faced former Brier champion Jean-Michel Menard of Gatineau/Levis, QC, in this morning’s tie-breaker draw. Edmonton, AB’s Kevin Koe will square off against Gatineau/Levis, QC’s Jean-Michel Menard in a tie-breaker tomorrow morning at 9:30 a.m. for the right to play in the quarter-final draw   KINGSTON, ON, December 16, 2011 – The round-robin portion of the BDO Canadian Open has come to an end, however, the playoff picture has not entirely sorted out. Thanks to a tie for the final playoff berth, a tie-breaker draw will be played tomorrow morning at Kingston, ON’s K-Rock Centre to determine the last quarter-finalist in the second Capital One Grand Slam of Curling event of the season.   Heading into tonight’s final round-robin draw at the BDO Canadian Open, five playoff spots had already been claimed, leaving just three more available for the five teams that were still in the running. Final Grand Slam of Curling event of the season at Summerside, PEI’s Credit Union Place will now take place from April 17-22, 2012   SUMMERSIDE, PE, December 9, 2011 – The Capital One Grand Slam of Curling today announced that the dates for the season-ending GP Car and Home Players’ Championship have been changed to April 17 to April 22, 2012. The final Grand Slam event on the calendar will take place in Summerside, PEI at Credit Union Place as planned; however, the tournament will now begin one week later than originally scheduled.   The decision to delay the start of the GP Car and Home Players’ Championship was made jointly by the Grand Slam of Curling and its broadcast partner, CBC Sports.
